About Athens

Welcome to Athens, the European capital of antiquity. You have arrived to the same site where the Western world's democracies, arts, sciences, and philosophies were born.  The place where Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Pericles, and Plato all lived.  One of the oldest cities in the world is Athens. It has been inhabited since the eleventh millennium B.C.E., and its recorded history spans around 3,400 years.  Modern architecture, infrastructure, and amenities, as well as the city's rich history and multicultural character, are all on display in the huge metropolis that stands under the Parthenon today.

Athens is an ideal city break destination all year round thanks to its perfect Mediterranean climate and legendary Greek sunlight, its unique blend of glorious history and modern, urban innovation, the coexistence of great culture with astonishing natural beauty, its high-standard hotel accommodation, its modern means of transportation (including the cutting-edge metro), its vibrant rhythm of life, its wide choice of dining, shopping, and nightlife opportunities, and, of course, the warmth of the Athenians people. Parthenon is like a walking museum in the middle of the city. A three-kilometer pedestrian zone, one of the biggest in Europe, now occupies a considerable portion of the town's historic core. It largely recreates the old terrain by leading to the main archaeological sites ("archaeological park"). The "Grande Promenade" surrounding the Acropolis is an incredible historical adventure that may be enjoyed on foot or by bike.
